Likkle Mai

Likkle Mai @Pipeline Cafe 11/13
Opening: Rootikal Riddim&&Humble Soul
I missed the last time she came down and I'm pretty bummed that Dry & Heavy is no more, but this show was good fun. Kelsey and I pre-gamed at Stef's house with Derek and headed over a bit later to avoid the long lines. And we were stoked when we got there, NO LINE. At Twinkle Brothers the line was ridiculous! We got in right when Humble Soul was taking the stage. Pipeline was pretty empty and there was a lot of room, which is always nice. I haven't seen them play in a while and they played a lot of their classic songs. Got pretty busss by the time Likkle Mai took the stage.

She was great; sang a lot of her Dry & Heavy songs with a few new ones (which were in Japanese and tripping me out). She played a long set, and had a three or four song encore. The crowd loved her. This has probably been the best show I've been to in the past few years.

Bravo

It was pouring on Tuesday and Kelsey and I were craving Italian food, and Bravos is just right next door.
I had the Baked Rigatoni.
Amazing.

Kelsey had the Italian Sausage.
It was just as awesome.

And who could say no to Bravos garlic bread? They even give you a take out plate full of it when you leave. Every time we eat there it is packed, so we just sit at the bar. The bartender remembers us and is quite hilarious. Usually after finishing our plates Kelsey and I are too stuffed to have any dessert, but this time we tried the Spumoni. Never had it before, and it was pretty good.

Duce Duce

Kelsey and I, and some friends, went to Gyukaku for my birthday. This was my first time to Gyukaku and it was fun.
---
There are so many different things to choose from. Our table decided on the "Mahalo" set (serves 6 people). It was good. I tried the Cow Tongue, which was actually pretty good. It was pretty fun to be there with everyone and cook our own food. The service was great and the food was good. It felt like the food was constantly coming at first. Every time we finished something, another plate was on its way. Everything was good. I can't wait to go back again.

James and Andrea diggin' in.

The awesome birthday cake Kelsey got for me.
My favorite; Red Velvet :)
And of course, birthday shots. Thanks Mary-- "Get him the strongest shot" haha.

Mmm, the Garlic Shrimp was great, and the Kalbi was bomb.

KAUAI

This blog was way overdue. Kauai was awesome, Kelsey and I had so much fun.
---
DAY ONE:

Of course the first thing we did was get some food. We ate at "Oki's Diner" it was pretty good. The pancakes there were nice and buttery.

After a quick bite to eat we headed to Kipu Falls. It took us a while to find this place because I'm a bad driver and we kept missing the entrance until we saw tourists walking back to their cars. Of course Kelsey was right all along as to where it was :) A little walk through some greenery got us to the falls and we crossed to the other side. It was amazing and there was a rope swing to jump off so we decided to give it a shot. The water was ice cold.

We worked up an appetite and Kelsey wanted to take me to this Bread and Deli place that she said was amazing, and she was right.

Sandwiches and chowder for both of us. The Bread and Deli was at the mall that we visited a couple times to get our share of sandwiches and soup. Both times that we went it was pumpin, I guess everyone can spot a good eat these days.

Next we checked out Tamba and got some hats and a sticker. We started heading up north, but the weather didn't look so great on that side.

We stopped off at this lookout point on the way to north shore, it overlooked a farm. It was hard to get a nice picture of the whole lookout because there were so much tourist stopping and taking pictures, but we finally managed to snag a quick one.
---

It started to rain, so we headed back towards Kapa'a and checked out Kealia beach (which I had a hard time remembering the name of throughout almost the entire trip). It was cool how most of the beaches were pretty much empty on Kauai, very different from the beaches on Oahu.
Fun in the sun.

We ended up doing a lot in the first day. We tried to find a good spot to camp at, but that did not work out in our favor. The spot where Kelsey camped at last year now had "No Camping" signs up and big boulders blocking vehicles from getting onto the sand. That was a bummer. We ended up getting a room at the Kauai Sands.

DAY TWO:

Unfortunately I had to fly back to Oahu on Sunday for an orientation (forgive me Kelsey) and got back to Kauai around 6:00pm. Kelsey's mom flew over to Kauai to hang out while I was away. This was their adventure:

I wish I was there to have breakfast with them. I got to try one of the pastries later on though, it was delicious.
I was starving when I got back and Kelsey to me to "Bubba Burgers" yum!

Double cheeseburger with fries and onion rings.

DAY THREE:

We felt sleepy at the start of the day, so we decided to check out this cafe, Java Kai, that we saw on our many trips through Kapa'a (we literal drove through that town like 20+ times). Everything there was organic, or least I thought it was... I'm pretty sure it was. Anyways, it was a great way to start our day. There was this crazy dude sitting in-front of the cafe saying "Howzit" and "What's up" to everyone entering the shop, he was cool though.

Kelsey wanted to take me to the west side to check out Polihale Beach. It was a far drive, but very nice scenery. We had to off-road to get there and I was tripping out (because the rental was expensive), but Kelsey saved us. So she ended up driving to the beach. It was a good 10-15 minute drive off-road to get there, and was totally worth it. Polihale Beach is by far my favorite beach.

We pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves!
Polihale was pretty much completely empty and all ours. The sun was shinning, weather was sweet, and water was refreshing.

We body-surfed the shore break for a while. I tried to get a good picture but my fingers got in the way. After a while, though, it was too hot. We were burning, more like ROASTING, in the blazing sun. So we packed up and headed back to the car. The walk across the sand felt like we were crossing a desert.

On the way back we checked out this shrimp place and got Fried Coconut Shrimp, so good.

We checked out Wailua River, with hopes of kayaking up it on the last day.

Hamura Saimin.
ONO.

DAY FOUR:
Our last day :(

A front desk lady at the hotel told us to check out Olympic Cafe. It was bomb. Kelsey got an omelet with cheese, avocado, and bacon with fresh melon slices. And of course, I got the pancakes (bad idea because they filled me up too quickly).

Cruised at some random beach behind Kapa'a town where we watched all these crabs running around on the sand, there was more the 30 of them!

We went back to Kealia Beach to cruise and watch people surf one last time before heading to the airport.
Bye bye Kauai.

Ps. Random picture, but I was trying to get this picture for the longest time and finally got it on the last day. A Wyland (sp?) painting on the side of this building.
